About Kim Schaefer

A native of Southeastern Wisconsin, Kim Schaefer, studied art in her early elementary years, and by high school was winning scholarships for summer art camps where she studied weaving and batik designs. Kim was formally educated in fine art with an emphasis on fibers and weaving, at the University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee. It was during this time that Kim was chosen to study weaving in the mountains of Mexico while living with the Tarascan indians.

She was taught weaving in the traditional centuries old method that the Tarascans still use today. Kim credits this experience as having a powerful and lasting influence on her artistic development.

Kim has since devoted time to pursue and study other artistic interests, which have included quilting, fabric design and batiks. Kim has been designing quilt patterns for her own company, Little Country Quilts, for the past six years. In 1999, Kim decided to pursue yet another passion, painting.

When the multi-faceted artist isn't creating, she enjoys gardening, and with her husband Gary watching her six children grow.
